Tell us about a subject you enjoy studying

 Hello everybody, I hope they’re okay c:

The topic I’m going to talk to you about today is  my favorite subject.

My favorite subject this semester at university is Social History of Chile. This course analyzes a fundamental part of our history, the vision of the Chilean people about the events and difficulties that they had to go through over the centuries. Personally, I have always had a genuine interest in the facts that make us what we are today, since childhood I was very curious about historical events so I constantly looked more about the history of Chile and the world.

However, everything I learned, was from the vision of the upper class and the state, always highlighted the same type of historical characters; monarchs, presidents, generals, ministers, etc. On the occasions that they talked about the working class, it was quite superficial, where the fundamental role played by this group of people throughout the history of our country was not mentioned. With this subject I could understand and learn the true history of Chile, because throughout my school life I always felt that everything I was taught was incomplete.

Tell us about an expert/person in your field that you admire

 Hello everybody, I hope they’re okay <3

The topic I’m going to talk to you about today is the person I admire. She was an inspiration to me, to continue acquiring knowledge of this discipline was Jane Addams, who was a feminist, pacifist, sociologist and one of the pioneers of social work in the United States. Making multiple contributions to social services, he offered in his settlement house called Hull House. She allowed many families who were in poverty to have food, health, education, work.

She was born on September 6, 1860 in Cedarville, Illinois, United States. She studied at the Women’s Medical School in Philadelphia. Initially he was interested in studying medicine, but due to health problems he had to leave his studies in that area. She later realized his interest in helping the poor, which is why he was inspired by an article about settlement houses, to create her own house. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931, after years of pacifism and opposition to her country’s integration into the First World War. She was the first American woman to receive such an award. She died on May 21, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, USA

The reason I admire her is because despite the sexist, classist and racist times in which she lived, Jane always worked hard to fight for the rights of women and the most disadvantaged people.

How Can Your Major Make the World a Better

Hello everybody, I hope they’re okay c:

This time I’m going to talk about how the career I’m currently studying can help make the world a better place. From my point of view, I believe that my career, Social Work, has great potential to bring about major transformations and profound changes in the system, which does not allow different vulnerable social sectors to develop and improve their situation. I hope that in the future I can become a social worker, who can be useful in intervening. Not in a charitable way, I want to guide, intervene and empower within my capacities the people who need it so that they can have a better life. I would especially like to be able to help people with limited resources, since historically they have not intervened in the right way in the problems that affect them, generally provided that they act superficially and do not combat the root of the problem.

A Photo and its Story

 Hello everybody, I hope they’re okay c:

The puppy that appears in the first photo, is my puppy Lola when I was three months old, currently is eight years old. This photo is special to me, because I can realize how important her company and love has been in all these years that we have shared with her.

This image is interesting to me, and it is because I can notice the passage of time and how much she has grown with me. At that time she was a quite shy puppy that did not make any sound, but now he is a quite cheerful, noisy and sociable adult dog, who does not hesitate to demonstrate his discontent and bark if any bird steals his food.

This photo was taken the day she arrived at our house, my dad brought it one afternoon, I was quite surprised and as soon as I saw it I immediately came to caress it. She was scared, but a while later she was trusting me.
